FERTIPRADO has a Research and Development department focused on finding new genetic materials, testing them on its own and in mixtures to evaluate and select plants that stand out for their vigour, persistence and adaptation to specific ecological niches, in order to find better solutions for farmers' needs.
This work is enriched by close collaboration with various national and international institutions and companies dedicated to the forage sector.
Systematic evaluation and recording of the behaviour of commercial varieties and new germplasm lines harvested in the field (vigour, size, resistance to pests and diseases, earliness, relative yields); studies of resistance to drought.
Pot sowing, with the aim of selecting plants with good productive potential, grouping them by specific characteristics. This is the second step in breeding and is only used on lines that are not yet varieties, i.e. plants that have not yet been genetically worked on.
In order for a line to be registered, it must be homogeneous, stable and different from anything that already exists on the market;
Isolation with pollination tents and the introduction of bees inside, with the aim of preventing the selected allogamous species from crossing;
Multiplication of pure seeds;
Variety registration process (2 years for annuals and 3 years for perennials).
Use of own and concession varieties;
Annual land rental, partnerships, own means.
Evaluating and improving commercial products;
Test new formulations;
Periodic seed quality control (product input) ;
Forage quality;
Inoculation processes;
Collections of lines of various species.
Propagation of allogamous legume species with high forage potential through cloning.
