FERTIPRADO has been running a certified seed multiplication programme since 2002. This division of the company has been growing steadily in recent years.
A set of varieties obtained by INIAV and concessioned to Fertiprado has allowed the company to develop this business area, benefiting the competitiveness of its products and also generating income for the breeder.
In partnership with several farmers, we have been increasing not only the area but also the range of varieties in production. A significant proportion of the seeds we commercialise are already produced in Portugal.
Multiplications have focused mainly on varieties of meadow and forage legumes, especially some species of clover, vetches, lupins and others that provide important benefits to the soil by fixing atmospheric nitrogen. There are now a number of producers, our seed production partners, who can also see the advantage of rotations, due to the greater fertility of their soils and the health and greater productivity of cereal crops in rotation with Fertiprado multiplications.
The seed obtained from the multiplication fields is then cleaned and calibrated at our facilities, and then certified by the official body (DGAV) according to OECD and EU standards, guaranteeing the quality of the seed.
